I have two applications running at all times on my laptop; these are Firefox and Outlook. Both of them are communication tools, but I’m thinking that one of them is quite under utilized. IMAP and SMTP (the protocols for mail delivery) could be harnessed do so much more than just mail delivery. My inbox lists stuff in reverse chronological order and has a hierarchial structure, it has good support for attachments, can be rigged for offline use, etc. etc. This becomes even more interesting if you think about mobile devices; almost all of them have a mail reader.. With P-IMAP evolution, this might become quite an interesting platform for apps and services…
